Joseph has remained vigilant in speaking out against the negative effects of glorifying the confederate flag. Years before the tragic mass murder that took place in Charleston, South Carolina on June 17th, 2015 which led to the removal of the Confederate flag from the SC Statehouse Joseph organized a forum and demonstration on the SC Statehouse grounds to speak out against the glorification of the flag and white supremacy.

Joseph was featured in the Florence Morning News/SCNOW.com covering the "Real Men Read" program at Savannah Grove Elementary in Florence, SC. More information can be found here.

Below reviews a petition with 12,022 signatures that Joseph initiated for an activism project during undergrad in May of 2015. This petition was up merely a month before the Mother Emanuel Tragedy and the comments from this petition are powerful. The comments capture the sentiments from a diverse group from around the United States. In the near future, Joseph would like to perform a textual analysis of the petition and determine which theme/sentiment was shared the most. This is significant to record history precisely as well as to continue the activism concerning the nostalgia of white supremacy in public spaces being shared through local and state organizations.
